On October 31 – November 1, RAABE Bulgaria hosted a partner meeting for the WE TEACH DATA – Inspire Teachers to Integrate DATA Science in STEM Subjects project. It was a great pleasure for us to welcome colleagues and friends from Vetren (Pazardzhik region, Bulgaria), Larissa (Greece), Bratislava (Slovakia), and Porto (Portugal) to Sofia.
The autumn weather did not disappoint, and we managed to show our guests the beauty of our city and the majestic Vitosha Mountain in all their splendour. We also treated our guests to dishes from traditional Bulgarian cuisine. While these experiences were very enjoyable, they were not the most important aspect: the meeting was highly productive, both in terms of assessing the results achieved and looking ahead to upcoming tasks.
In October, we began working on the next work package of activities for the project, resulting in the development of online training for teaching Data Science in schools. We will provide teachers with a solution on how to impart knowledge and skills to students in the areas of statistical theory and probability, data processing, visualization, and analysis, descriptive statistics, programming languages, and software applications, interpretation, and presentation of data. All these topics will be enriched with video lessons, presentations, self-assessment quizzes, and additional self-study materials.
The course is designed as an opportunity to obtain additional professional qualification, certified with a training completion certificate, and as a supplement to the lessons and materials for students from the We Teach DATA School Box. The development of the lessons is as well progressing as planned – we will complete the main part by the end of the year, and in the following year, we will pilot them in a real school environment with teachers and students in Bulgaria, Greece and Slovakia.
