The XXI Bulgarian National Competition in Natural Sciences and Ecology took place in the city of Gabrovo from November 17 to 19, 2023. The host of the competition was the “Neofit Rilski” Primary School. Thirty-four projects, presented by over 50 students from across the country, reached the finals of the competition.
In Gabrovo, students presented their projects on current ecological issues, proposing solutions using natural sciences. The competition consisted of two rounds – the presentation of projects through posters and the public defence of the projects with a presentation.
Each project was evaluated based on twelve criteria, including the scientific justification for choosing the problem, clearly formulated goals and tasks, presentation of the stages for project implementation, conclusions and results, among others, with a maximum possible score of 60 points.
The projects awarded the first three places in the age category V-VII grade were:
- “Green Chemistry” by students from “Alexander Georgiev-Kodzhakafaliyata” Primary School, Burgas.
- “Chemtrails – Myths and Reality” by a young contestant from “V. Levski” High School, Troyan.
- “The Hidden Treasures of the Earth” realized by “Vasil Levski” High School, Sevlievo.
Among the secondary school students (VIII-XII grade), the competition was even more contested, with only a 0.60 points difference between the first and second place!
The project “Breathe!” by students from the Professional High School of Design “Elisaveta Vazova” in Sofia took the first place. The runners-up were the students from “Acad. Lyudmil Stoyanov” Foreign Languages School from Blagoevgrad, with the project “Alpine Garden ‘Sarugol'” and from “Hristo Botev” Professional High School, Popovo, with the development on the topic “Healthy Bread with Sourdough – the Miracle of Natural Fermentation”.
The other presented projects were no less original and creative. Our team congratulates all the participants in the competition and their mentors!
