Master class

The “We Teach DATA” Master Class is designed for teachers who teach STEM subjects to students in the pre-high school stage (grades 5 to 7).

The training course is developed as part of the activities under the We Teach DATA project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Program.

The overarching goal of the We Teach DATA Master Class is to empower teachers with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to effectively teach data science in school, ensuring a meaningful and enriching learning experience for students. The specific aims are as follow:

Developing a Foundational Understanding: Ensure teachers understanding of the fundamental concepts of data science, including data types, variables, and basic statistical concepts.

Familiarity with Data Tools and Technologies: Introduce teachers to commonly used data science tools and technologies and data visualization tools, ensuring they can navigate and use them effectively.

Curriculum Integration: Provide strategies and examples for integrating data science into existing school curricula, aligning it with relevant subjects to enhance interdisciplinary learning.

Ethical Considerations in Data Science: Emphasize the importance of ethical considerations when working with data, including privacy and responsible data use.

Practical Experience: Facilitate hands-on exercises and projects to allow teachers to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, fostering a practical understanding of data science concepts.

Assessment Strategies: Equip teachers with effective assessment methods for evaluating students’ understanding of data science concepts, encouraging the development of relevant skills.

Differentiation and Adaptation: Provide strategies for adapting data science lessons to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within the classroom, ensuring inclusivity.

Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Foster the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking among teachers and, consequently, their students through engaging data science activities.

Continuous Professional Development: Instil a mindset of continuous learning by motivating teachers to stay updated on the latest developments in data science and educational approaches.

Communication Skills: Emphasize effective communication of data science concepts, helping teachers convey complex ideas in a way that is accessible and engaging for students.

Student Engagement and Motivation: Explore strategies to keep students motivated and engaged in data science lessons, fostering a positive attitude towards the subject.

The course consists of 13 modules that will teach you how to successfully integrate data science into student learning and how to use the 36 lessons developed in the We Teach DATA School Box, which you can easily adapt to your students and the activities you plan in your classes
